Tom Pirkis - SCS Field Engineer, Suffolk

"Testing fits perfectly with our farming system, it gets me off the farm when we’ve run out of winter jobs. One of the great added benefits of the job as well as securing supplementary income, is gaining knowledge and experience from the SCS team which I can apply on my own farm too. I can make sure that every spec of fertiliser on our farm is going where we want it. I’m sure I’ve made just as much money out of improving our own spreading system as I have doing the actual testing!”

Derek Howe - SCS Field Engineer, Gloucestershire

"I love the variety of places and people I get to visit. Seeing different farms and approaches is endlessly fascinating. Also the job keeps me around the machines that make it all happen and that fits really well with my passion for engineering and the agricultural industry. It just combines so well with the farming day job, and provides additional income as well as ongoing learning opportunities. The SCS team are great to work for – always supportive and brilliant training.”
